Beauty advice for real budgets
MateDolly is an independent beauty publication built on a simple frustration: most "best of" beauty lists read like they were written for someone else's wallet. Our reader wants the polished result — the foundation that survives a workday, the serum that actually brightens, the manicure that lasts the week — without the luxury markup being the price of admission.
So we work drugstore-first. Every guide starts with affordable staples from brands like Maybelline, L'Oréal Paris, e.l.f., CeraVe, and NYX, then adds a mid-range pick only when it genuinely outperforms the budget option. If a $9 product wins, we say so.
Meet the editor
Chloe Bennett is MateDolly's beauty editor. She has spent a decade in and around beauty retail and editorial, and she still believes the most useful beauty skill is knowing where the money actually matters in a routine (sunscreen and foundation) and where it doesn't (almost everything in a pretty jar).
Chloe plans every guide around real routines: the 7 a.m. school run, the office day that ends at a dinner, the wedding-guest weekend. Products are assessed on published ingredients, formulation, shade range, wear claims, and how they fit those routines — and we say plainly when a pick is a "best for" rather than a universal best.
How we choose products
- Published information first. Ingredient lists, shade ranges, sizes, and manufacturer claims — checked against official brand and retailer pages.
- Scenario before superlative. Every pick is labeled with who it's for: dry skin, fine hair, short nails, a strict budget.
- Trade-offs included. Each product card lists honest downsides next to the strengths. Nothing here is perfect, and we don't write like it is.
- Prices change; we point, not print. Product buttons link to current retailer listings so you always see today's price rather than a number we froze in an article.
